Caherhurley Nursery Closing July 2025

LAST CHANCE TO PURCHASE CAHERHURLEY PLANTS THIS SPRING:

Caherhurley Nursery - Ireland's only certified organic nursery of ornamental garden plants- will close its gates for the last time in July. As the nursery owners, we - Gert and Elisabeth Stam - have regretfully decided on the move in light of Gert's health problems in recent years. But avid plant fans will be pleased to know that the nursery's full stock of 50,000 plants - in over 900 varieties - is still available to buy. This includes many rare varieties from our motherstock collection that previously weren't available. Not all of these have been added to the webshop - but as a visitor to the nursery, you'll find them there.

VISIT EARLY

So visit us early this spring - some varieties might sell out fast! And you'll find the same great value and low prices as always. The nursery is open from 10am until 5pm, seven days a week until the end of July. And our mail order service will continue for this spring - probably until late April.

You can also access our free planting design service until the end of April - it will be extra busy this year, so get in touch with Kate on 085 7435904 asap if you'd like to use this service. https://www.caherhurleynursery.com/free-expert-advice-on-planting-an-area

In fact, even after we close our gates, Kate will carry on our proud tradition in horticulture and our ethos, growing plants and designing gardens and planting schemes from her own small nursery in North Clare.

TWENTY-FOUR YEARS

After twenty-four years operating our nursery in Ireland and attending plant fairs across the length and breadth of the island of Ireland, it’s now time for us to stop. We've been certified organic since 2002 and we're proud that we stuck to our strong ethos. We're delighted to have supplied Irish-grown, certified organic perennial plants to countless gardens, planters, community projects, tidy towns, schools and parks across the island of Ireland. We've always focused on growing plants suitable for the Irish climate by choosing the right varieties and growing them slowly outside, without fertiliser, on our exposed mountain side. This way, we've been able to make better plants available for Ireland's gardeners. And we've never bought in plants - we've always done all of our own propagation.

THANK YOU

We'd like to say a heartfelt 'thank you' to all of our customers - you're the reason we've managed to keep going for over twenty years from our little farm in East Clare. We have been and continue to be grateful for your support.

We've had the pleasure of meeting so many people who are passionate about gardening and about the environment. We’ve met them in markets over the years - many of them we’d meet year after year and we would hear how the plants they’d bought from us in previous years were doing. We’ve also met them in our nursery and we will continue to do so until July of this year. Many people use our mail order service and get in touch with us over social media.

But whether it’s in person, via email, letters or on social media, it’s always been so encouraging and lovely to hear from all of you.

QUALITY OF LIFE

It's sad that we have to close the nursery, but it's for the best. Many of you will be aware of Gert's health issues during the last seven years. At this point, to be able to have the best quality of life, we've decided to wind down the nursery and enjoy more time with our horses. Being a passionate plantsman, Gert will surely cherish his private plant collection. There's no stopping this old grower!

We hope to see you here in Caherhurley for your final visits and plant hauls in 2025!

Please tell your gardening friends about the last chance to get Caherhurley plants.

Many thanks,

Gert and Elisabeth Stam, Kate O'Shaughnessy, Caherhurley Nursery.
