Darmera peltata
An interesting spreading plant for wet soil. The large leaves up to 45cm wide look like an upside down umbrella and turn red in autumn. Before the leaves come out, clusters of light pink flowers on 100cm tall stems appear in April to May; they look something from outerspace. The leaves often collect water in the centre of the leaves, adding to this wonderful plant.
This umbrella plant is ideal in wet ground, on river or pond edges or in bog gardens. A moist soil is a must, but it can grow in sun or partial shade.
